Android almost as popular as the iPhone

ChangeWave, a surveyor of consumer smartphones, has released a results to its most recent consumer preference for smartphones survey.  As seen in the image above, the Google's Android has almost reached the same level of popularity as the iPhone, made by Apple.  This returns the race to its neck and neck status, as it was in the March 2010 survey, seen below.

It now appears that both Apple and Google are the two main competitors for the best smartphone, and any other company will find it difficult to sell their smartphone.  Both the iPhone and the Android's popularity have grown in both survey's while the other smartphone's have taken a nose dive down.  The Palm has fallen off the map, Window's Mobile fell from 5% in the March 2010 survey to 1% in the current survey and BlackBerry fell from 12% to 6%.

The graph below shows the popularity increase in the Android over the last couple of months.

Apple iTV offers 256 MB RAM, iPad's A4 processor and 8 GB storage

The repairmen at iFixit have gotten a chance to open up Apple's new iTV, to see what is inside.  iFixit has discovered that the iTV's flash internal storage is only 8 GB of NAND, an important fact that Apple chose not to widely discuss, as the iTV focuses less on storing content and more on streaming.  Since it does focus more on streaming and not as much of storage, the device only offers 256 MB of RAM, while the iPhone and iPod 4 have twice the RAM, with 512 apiece.   The iTV is also equipped with the iPad's A4 processor, giving a nice amount of power to load screen animation, and dropping the power supply rating to 5.95 watts.

Oddly enough though, Steve Jobs mentioned that a version of the App store may come to the iTV in the future.  This is strange because if they were planning to put the App Store on the iTV later, more RAM and more internal storage would have been vital if lots of apps were to be downloaded.  This choice by Apple will limit the type and number of Apps that would be on this App Store.

iPad patent shows front facing camera, and dual dock connectors

The website devoted to patents from Apple, Patently Apple reports an image of an iPad that showed up in China's patent data base, that features a dock connector on both the portrait side and the landscape side.  The picture, seen below, also shows off what appears to be a front facing camera.

However,  Macrumors attempts to disprove this being the next iPad.  They claim that the dot that appears to represent the front facing camera is actually the light sensor.  After reading the post on Macrumors, the writer at Patently Apple had this to say:

"I went to the Apple Store later this morning to take a closer look at the iPad's "light sensor." Are you kidding me? You need a magnifying glass to see the damn thing. Did you see the camera on the iPhone 4? Yes, small, but something that you could actually see, like in the designs in this report. Sorry folks, but at the end of the day, I just don't buy into the light sensor angle at all and reconfirm my position that this is a design illustrating a face side camera - based on closer inspection of the actual product and the contrast that Apple makes in the designs..."

3B - landscape docking + New port - 9m002Although Macrumors believes that this was intended for the original iPad but just never made it in, we firmly believe that it does represent the next generation of iPads for a number of reasons.  First and foremost, after looking at an iPad Patently Apple is making a completely valid statement which we agree with.  Next, in the next couple of images, you can see another image of a patent.  Notice the slope on the side views.  Compare that to this image of the current iPad:

I have found the slopes of the sides to be different by a considerable amount.
Finally, in calculating the slope of the back, We have found out that the iPad patent pictures are actually smaller than the current ones, leading us to believe that they are the next generation of iPads
