I Preordered the iPhone Duo…Didn't See THIS Coming 👀

I preordered Apple's first foldable iPhone within the first 60 seconds of availability. I had everything prepared, knew exactly which model I wanted, and checked out almost immediately. But somehow, I still couldn't get launch-day delivery.

The iPhone Duo officially went up for preorder on Friday, October 16, at 8:00 a.m. Eastern. I was ready to go, hoping to get my hands on Apple's $2,000 foldable iPhone when it launches on October 23.

Instead, I ended up with a delivery estimate nearly a month later. And when I checked Apple's website again just minutes afterward, the situation had become even more surprising.

Here's exactly what happened during my iPhone Duo preorder, including the model I chose, the Apple Store pickup situation, how quickly shipping dates slipped, and the outrageous reseller listings that followed.

My iPhone Duo Preorder: Star White with 256GB

Going into preorder morning, I had already used Apple's Get Ready feature to prepare my purchase. The idea was simple: make as many decisions as possible beforehand so I could move through checkout quickly when orders opened.

And I did make one change from my original plan.

In my previous video, I was leaning toward the Night Sky model with 512GB of storage. But when it came time to order, I went with the Star White iPhone Duo with 256GB of storage.

That configuration starts at $1,999 before tax, making it the entry-level version of Apple's first foldable iPhone.

I placed the order within the first minute of preorders opening. For a moment, I thought that might be enough to secure a launch-day device.

It wasn't.

Apple Store Pickup Disappeared During Checkout

One thing I really wanted was to pick up my iPhone Duo at an Apple Store on launch day.

There's something special about picking up a completely new Apple product in person, especially when it's the company's first attempt at an entirely new iPhone form factor.

During checkout, Apple Store pickup briefly appeared to be an option. But when I selected it, that availability disappeared.

Suddenly, I couldn't find a nearby Apple Store offering pickup for my configuration.

That left delivery as my option, even though I had placed the order almost immediately after preorders opened.

Interestingly, the ordering experience itself was mostly smooth on my iPhone 17 Pro. I was able to get through the Apple Store checkout process without much trouble.

My MacBook was a different story. I couldn't get the preorder page to load there while I was placing the order on my phone.

The checkout process worked. The surprise came when I saw when my new iPhone was actually supposed to arrive.

My iPhone Duo Delivery Date Was November 16–23

Despite ordering in under 60 seconds, Apple's estimated delivery window for my iPhone Duo was November 16–23.

That's almost a month after the phone's official October 23 release date.

I'll admit, I wasn't expecting that.

I knew launch-day availability might be limited. This is Apple's first foldable iPhone, and we had no previous iPhone Duo launch to use as a reference.

But I had prepared the order in advance and completed checkout about as quickly as I reasonably could.

How much faster was I supposed to be?

Of course, a delivery estimate isn't necessarily a final delivery date. Apple has sometimes moved shipping estimates forward after launch, and I experienced something similar when I ordered the iPhone X.

I'm hoping that happens again here.

iPhone Duo Shipping Dates Slipped Into January 2027

After placing my order, I went back to Apple's website to see how availability was changing.

That's when things got even more interesting.

Within roughly 10 minutes of preorders opening, the configurations I checked were showing estimated delivery dates in January 2027.

And it wasn't just one specific color or storage option.

When I looked across the available iPhone Duo configurations, both colors and the different storage capacities were displaying January delivery estimates.

Think about that for a second. Apple's first foldable iPhone had only been available to preorder for minutes, yet customers checking the website were already seeing estimated waits stretching into the following year.

That's a dramatic shift in availability.

But there's an important distinction here: shipping delays alone don't tell us exactly how many iPhone Duo units Apple sold.

We don't know how much inventory Apple had ready for launch, how that inventory was allocated, or how many devices were available for each configuration.

What we can say is that the near-term preorder availability I observed disappeared remarkably quickly.

And that's something worth paying attention to as Apple prepares to launch its first foldable iPhone.

iPhone Duo Scalpers Are Already Asking Thousands More

As if the shipping situation wasn't surprising enough, reseller listings for the iPhone Duo started appearing online.

Some sellers were asking dramatically more than Apple's retail prices for preorder reservations or devices they expected to receive.

One example I spotted was a Night Sky iPhone Duo with 2TB of storage listed on eBay for $5,000.

For context, that configuration has an Apple retail price of $3,199.

That's an asking-price premium of $1,801.

Even the lower-storage configurations were attracting unusually high asking prices.

Now, an important caveat: a reseller listing is not the same thing as a completed sale. Just because someone asks $5,000 for an iPhone Duo doesn't mean a buyer will actually pay it.

Still, seeing those listings appear so quickly says something about how sellers are trying to capitalize on the limited near-term availability.

Personally, I wouldn't pay those premiums just to get the phone a little earlier.

Will My iPhone Duo Arrive Before November?

For now, my preorder is confirmed, and I'm waiting to see whether Apple's delivery estimate improves.

I'm also planning to check Apple Store pickup availability around the October 23 launch. If a nearby store ends up with a configuration I want, that could potentially change my plans.

But I'm not counting on anything until I see actual availability.

Either way, I'm excited to spend time with Apple's first foldable iPhone and share my experience once I have it in hand.

There are still plenty of questions about how the iPhone Duo will work as an everyday phone, from the folding display and hinge to multitasking, battery life, and whether the larger screen changes how I use my iPhone.

Those are the things I want to explore when my device finally arrives.

What Does the iPhone Duo Preorder Rush Mean for Apple?

There's a bigger story developing around this launch.

Apple's first foldable iPhone is a major new product, and the speed at which shipping estimates changed on preorder morning raises some interesting questions.

How much of this was driven by customer demand? How much was the result of limited initial supply? And what does the early preorder experience tell us about the iPhone Duo's potential?

Those questions deserve a separate discussion, and I'll be digging into the broader implications in my next video.

For today, though, I wanted to share what actually happened when I tried to buy one.

I was ready at 8:00 a.m., placed my order within the first minute, and still ended up with a November delivery estimate. That's not how I expected preorder morning to go.

Did You Preorder the iPhone Duo?

Now I'm curious to hear how everyone else's preorder experience went.

Did you manage to get an iPhone Duo for launch day? Were you able to reserve Apple Store pickup? Or did you end up with a November, December, or even January delivery estimate?

And which configuration did you choose: Night Sky or Star White? 256GB, 512GB, 1TB, or 2TB?

Let me know what happened with your iPhone Duo preorder. I'm especially interested in whether anyone who ordered in the first few minutes managed to secure an October 23 delivery.
